Memorial Weekend Projects

What a great weekend it’s been so far!  I hope everyone has been enjoying their time and have thanked those who served or are serving our country.  Thank you!

I have been busy with my Annie Sloan Chalk Paint working on a very rustic trunk my dad found at a junk store.  I forgot to take a totally before pic of the trunk, but I think you get the idea.  Very rough shape, but made very sturdy – wood with metal trim covered in some kind of fabric.  I thought about painting it Olive, but it was just too dark & drab…

So I decided to try Paris Gray…I painted it outside (early in the morning), so i had to work quickly.  The paint was drying very fast, but it covers so well, i didn’t do ANY prep.

It was a little boring with only Paris Gray, so I dry brushed it with Old White…Love it!  The pic doesn’t show as much of the dry brush detail, but you can see it on the close ups.

What do you think?  I didn’t totally cover the Olive color, so it’s peeking out on the metal trim.  I still need to either wax it or spray with Poly…but I’m really happy with it.

I also finished a silver tray that I had sprayed pink (Oops paint from Home Depot).  It was way beyond any polishing, so I wanted to try something different with it.  I stenciled it with Paris Gray, distressed it a little, and added some Annie Sloan clear and dark wax.  Looks pretty good.  Sorry, no before pics.

And here’s another finished chalkboard made from a mirror (doggie condo in the background).  Love it too!

Vintage Aqua Booth

Spent some time yesterday swapping out items in my booth at the Gaslamp Antique and Decorating Mall.  I added some metal tables, and wooden chairs that I had painted a light aqua color.

I love how summery everything feels.  Now I just need to add some beachy shells and some chalkboard signs.

I found a beautiful gold framed triple mirror at an estate sale.  Love it!

I decided to bring the vintage glider seat home and use it as a plant stand in the front yard.  What do you think?

And my next painting project…a beautiful armoire!  I can’t decide what color though…suggestions?

Upcycled cabinet door chalkboard designs…

Inspired by so many spray chalkboard paint projects, I finally decided to try it myself.  I had some old cabinet doors that I bought at a building supply wholesale store.

Cabinets before Southern Junk Chic

Originally I had planned to add some vintage door knobs or hooks for coats…but they seemed to be perfect for the chalkboard paint.  What do you think?  I love the spray chalkboard paint!

Now I just have to put hangers on the back and they’re ready to go!  Thanks for the inspiration Deneen at Dreaming in Color!!

Thanks for checking out my blog!  I’m still working on my it and learning - so please send me any tips!!

My Booth at the Gaslamp Antique Mall

I'm still getting my blog up and going, but wanted to share what I do in my spare time! I've been a little distracted these past few weeks (with family and work)...but wanted to post a pic of my booth at the Gaslamp Antique & Decorating Mall. I had a sale during my birthday week (last week)!

Now that sunny summer weather has arrived (well, it was here a few days ago), I'm planning on changing it up to reflect a more beachy summer place - where I wish I was at right now! If you're in the Nashville area, please stop by and see the mall and my booth (B223b). It's right off I-65 and Armory Drive across from 100 Oaks Mall (100 Powell Place, Suite 200, Nashville, TN 37204), 615-297-2224. Thanks!

Blogger Buddy Luncheon

What a great time I had with the Middle TN blogger girls who met at Panera today for lunch! It was so nice meeting you all. And what adventures we had afterwards hitting the junk stores and waiting on the “bean bag” man! Thanks everyone for sharing your information and tips. I’m slowly learning how to get this blog up and going…and how to link it with all my other sites. Thanks again!
