I recently discovered (with the help of a friend) this little jewel of a shopping spot ~ 12th Avenue South area. I’d heard about it, but just hadn’t taken the time to check it out. It’s loaded with character, and is a new shopping / living area on 12th South that is super pedestrian friendly (unique to Nashville). Lofts have popped up all along the street, but you can still find the quaint older homes dotted about that have been given a new life with young hipsters.
Along 12th between Kirkwood Avenue and Douglas Ave, you can find everything from Imogene + Willie’s unique hipster grunge clothing line, various coffee houses, breweries, and restaurants like the 12th South Tap Room, the Frothy Monkey Coffee house, Edley's BBQ, Mafiaoza's Pizza, to country musician/songwriter Gary Allen’s The Label (country rocker clothing line and accessories), to vintage and antique goodies at both Savant Vintage Couture and the newest store ~ White's Mercantile, a business venture of country royalty, Holly Williams (Hank Jr.’s daughter).
The first stop on this cold December Saturday was White’s Mercantile (I couldn’t find their website up and running just yet) at the corner of 12th South and Kirkwood Ave. Newly opened in a remodeled gas station, it’s amazing how she and her crew have transformed the place. It’s filled with one of a kind antique and vintage treasures and unique newer gift items. She spared no detail! Some items may look familiar to Gaslamp dealers – she is a frequent shopper! She even has some Christmas Folk items of Jason Parker Counce’s creations from Dirt Home + Garden. She said she has summer plans for an organic farmers market. Holly is so sweet and is sure to be a success in the antique world if this new store is any indication! Stop by and see her!
And then we have Imogene + Willie’s store, which is in the old Granny White’s Service Station. Their unique hipster clothing line is fabulous, and their store display pieces add just that perfect extra touch!
We had to stop at The Label to see what all the buzz was about Gary’s store. It was just as fabulous! Great display pieces to match the unique clothing items and jewelry. Looks just like Gary when he’s out and about in Nashville.
Savant’s Vintage Couture Shop has everything you’re looking for in the way of vintage clothing, shoes, and accessories for men and women! Two stories of clothing and vintage home décor. Great stuff!
There were many other cool places, but I hope you enjoyed seeing this small tour of 12th South! Check it out if you’re in town or in the area. I promise it won’t disappoint. And you never know who you might see there…I love that about Nashville!!
As always, thanks for reading my blog!
